Garmin Nuvi 260 GPS
It doesn't have all the extra's like bluetooth or MP3 player but just is what you want it for - a good GPS that will get you from point A to point B via the best route possible. Eliminating these extra features makes it much more affordable. The size is great, as it has a small 3.5" screen so it can fit in your pocket (which is more difficult for widescreen models even though you can get the 260 in a widescreen version - 260W). The screen is also very bright (much brighter than the 300 series) like all the Garmin models in the 200 series including the Garmin nuvi 270 GPS. You probably won't need to look in the instructional book because it's pretty intuitive to use and a few minutes playing with it and you'll have it mastered. The antenna is internal which is a huge plus, since having an external antenna can be one extra thing that could break.
FeaturesText to Speech: This is one feature that I believe should be standard in every GPS model, as it is much easier to know what to do when the GPS says 'turn left at Smith St' rather than 'turn left in 200 metres'. With an older GPS unit that I owned that did not have this feature, there were many times that I would come to the turn off only to discover two streets remarkably close together and I wasn't sure which one I was supposed to be taking. Garmin Lock: If you are concerned about theft, you can set up your GPS so that to use it you will need to enter a four digit pin code. While it won't actually stop it being stolen, at least you know that any thieves will not be able to access your GPS to find your home address. 2D/3D Maps: You can choose to view your maps in either 3D or 2D. I actually prefer the 2D maps as I'm used to looking at street directories, but sometimes it can be helpful to see your route in 3D to get an idea of surrounding buildings and points of interest.
